Kevin Croombs joins Carman Contracting as Finance Director

Carman Contracting has appointed Kevin Croombs as Finance Director, a newly created role designed to support our ambitious growth strategy and increase our financial resilience.

Kevin has over 30 years of accounting experience, including 18 years as Group Accountant with brickwork, scaffolding and building subcontractor, The Champion Group, and seven years in manufacturing accounting with Stannah Stairlifts. His extensive background in the construction industry has given him an in-depth understanding of the financial challenges and opportunities facing a growing contracting business like ours.

As Finance Director, Kevin is responsible for introducing improved management reporting on business performance and cash flow, implementing policies to support expansion, and strengthening the company’s scalable infrastructure through automation and real-time reporting systems.

“Carman Contracting instantly appealed as the next step on my journey, being able to combine my skills with the growth strategy of the company,” said Kevin.  “I am looking forward to having a key role in the day-to-day operations, growing the business and helping James and Rory realise the potential of the business. From the initial call with James through to meeting some of the team, it feels like this is a set of people committed to the company strategy with a work hard, play hard ethic, which I embrace.”

Kevin sees finance as far more than a back-office function. His plans are to focus on three pivotal areas during his first 6-12 months: strategic decision support, safeguarding cash flow and liquidity, and strengthening scalable infrastructure. His approach involves fully understanding the business by speaking with each staff member, visiting sites, and talking with stakeholders to develop a long-term strategy that builds a future-proof financial framework.

Outside of work, Kevin leads a busy family life on a seven-acre equestrian smallholding, home to horses, chickens and a variety of other animals. He is a keen sports fan, a long-time Liverpool supporter and a car enthusiast. He is also strongly community-focused, having served as a trustee for a cancer charity, governor of a local FE college, treasurer for a local rugby club, and committee member for the Ark Riders. In 2017, he cycled from Basingstoke to Paris to raise funds for The Ark Cancer Centre charity.
