Jonquil Tuson joins Carman Contracting as Quantity Surveyor

Carman Contracting has strengthened its project team with the appointment of Jonquil Tuson as our new Quantity Surveyor. Jonquil, who joined us in August, has over two decades of experience in construction and brings with her extensive knowledge of managing contracts and project delivery across a wide range of refurbishment and new build schemes.

Jonquil's extensive career began with attending Highbury College, Portsmouth, where she was studying for a Diploma in Construction.  While still at college, she was recruited by Kier Group as a trainee QS and sponsored to study Construction Management with Quantity Surveying at Westminster University.

Her first project for Kier was a painting contract for the MOD at HMS Dryad. The project soon grew into a multi-disciplined refurbishment, where she worked on a diverse range of buildings, including accommodation blocks, officers' and ratings' messes, and a church. She still vividly remembers her first day on site, arriving with a bright pink lunchbox, something she never lived down!

Since then, Jonquil has worked on a diverse range of projects with a broad spectrum of clients. These have included refurbishing manor houses and building hospital operating theatres for the NHS. This hands-on experience has taught her that the keys to successful project delivery are communication, teamwork and trust.

At Carman Contracting, Jonquil supports our Director, James Selwood, in the day-to-day running of our commercial projects, helping to ensure they’re delivered on time, on budget and to our usual high standards.

“My role is varied and keeps me on my toes,” said Jonquil.  “I enjoy refurbishment work as you never know what you’ll find around the corner or hiding in the woodwork! What really stands out about Carman Contracting is the family feel, which is often lost in larger companies. Good colleagues are important to me as they play an integral part of your working life.”

“Jonquil’s experience and enthusiasm make her a great addition to our growing team,” said James Selwood. “Her varied experience will be a great asset as we continue to expand and deliver high-quality projects for our clients.”

Outside of work, Jonquil enjoys muddy dog walks, clay pigeon shooting when time permits, and has recently discovered a love for pickleball.
