Carman Contracting delivers its largest solar project to date for Flexicovers

Carman Contracting has started work on its largest solar project to date: the new factory premises for Flexicovers, a UK manufacturer of high-quality boat covers for some of the country’s most recognisable marine brands.

The family-owned business’s move to larger industrial premises in Poole reflects the continued success of this innovative UK manufacturer, which has built a strong reputation in the marine industry.

As part of its move to larger industrial premises in Poole, Flexicovers is investing in renewable energy to support both its expanding operational needs and environmental responsibility. The company’s new facility will house expanded production operations, and with high electricity demand from manufacturing equipment, Flexicovers will fulfil a significant portion of its energy use by generating its own power on site through the solar installation.

Carman Contracting was awarded the contract to design, supply and install an 84kWp solar microgeneration system, comprising 160 roof-mounted panels. This is the first time Carman has installed a solar system on factory premises and is a substantial project for our dedicated renewable division.

A full feasibility study has been carried out ahead of the installation, which has been designed to ensure compliance with the DNO (Distribution Network Operators) regulations. The installation, carried out by Carman’s in-house team of solar experts, requires careful coordination, including the use of specialist lifting equipment to safely move the panels from an HGV to the roof in a busy industrial estate.

The majority of the installation is due to be completed within a week, supporting a great British manufacturing success story with long-term sustainable energy.
