Carman Contracting completes second school project with Kier at Lyneham Primary School

Carman Contracting has completed its second school project with Kier Group for Wiltshire County Council, following the recent completion of works at Broad Town Primary School.

The project at Lyneham Primary School near Chippenham involved the removal and replacement of the school’s ageing cladding, which had deteriorated over the past 20 years, mainly due to moisture becoming trapped behind the surface.

The original installation did not include a breathable membrane between the brickwork and cladding, which contributed to rot and water damage over time.

Our team removed the existing cladding and installed new cedar cladding, along with a vapour barrier and improved measures to prevent water penetration. The new system allows the structure to breathe and protects it from future moisture issues.

The 3 week programme was carefully planned, with the majority of the schedule taking place during the school half-term to minimise disruption for pupils and staff. Work areas remained securely sectioned off during term time to ensure safety in the live school environment.

“Because of the nature of the site, we avoided using traditional scaffolding, " explained John Graham, Carman Contracting Operations Director. "Instead, our teams worked from towers, which provided a safer and more controlled solution around children and school activities.
