CARDIFF CROWN COURT
Firestopping and fire door upgrade at Grade 1 listed Cardiff Crown Court
Project summary
Equans appointed Carman Contracting to carry out fire door upgrades at Grade I listed Cardiff Crown Court. The project involved remedial work on 72 ornate doors, with all work completed out of hours to minimise disruption to court operations. Tasks included fitting intumescent strips, applying fire-resistant paint, and preserving original features such as bevelled glass. Our team, which included skilled carpenters, worked closely with conservation officers to ensure the fire safety enhancements were delivered without compromising the building’s historic character.

“Carman quickly and efficiently brought me up to speed on this project, so I knew exactly where we were when I took over. Handing over the project was smooth and easy, and the Client was extremely happy with the work and the professionalism of the team.
Due to the building's Grade I listed status, extra care and consideration had to be taken to ensure the Conservation Officer was satisfied with all remedial works. Carman adhered to this throughout, ensuring there
were no issues.”
