Callum King joins Carman Contracting as Project Manager

Carman Contracting has strengthened its renewables capability with the appointment of Callum King as Project Manager, enhancing our solar PV and renewable energy operations across our growing portfolio.

Callum’s career began with electrical wholesaler CEF, where he worked his way up through the business and gained extensive knowledge of electrical components and how they work together. From there, he moved to work for Wessex Eco Energy, which Good Energy later acquired. Here, Callum trained as a solar installation surveyor before being promoted to selling and surveying solar and battery storage systems.

Joining Carman Contracting in October 2025 was a natural next step on Callum's career path. As Project Manager, he designs and quotes solar PV systems, organises equipment, materials, and site teams, and prepares related administration, including DNO applications. He is currently managing projects at Leatherhead Trading Estate and McKay Trading Estate, featuring around 500 panels across eight units to reduce each unit's electrical demand.

"I've only been with the company a few months, but so far, I would say it is a very enjoyable place to work. The whole team is very friendly and welcoming. Every day is different. I get to meet many people and see jobs through the whole process from winning quotes, seeing the install, and then handing the finished job over," said Callum.

But his job can be challenging. As he explains, “Solar is highly competitive and can be seasonal with more people thinking about it in the winter, and then when the weather improves, they’re in a hurry to get it installed. People often refer to this as the Solar Coaster!”

Callum’s focus on renewables stems from a belief in the sector's continued growth: "It's something that is forever growing and makes sense. With the technology that is now available and with the cost of living increasing, I believe renewables will continue to be a huge part of everyone's agenda both domestically and commercially."

Before starting his career in electrical wholesale, Callum played professional rugby. He was part of Bath Academy, which took him to New Zealand, Australia, and other countries around the world, and he earned several caps for England at Age Grade level. Outside of work, he still plays rugby for his local team and enjoys spending time with his family and dog.
