Carman completes Bournemouth Crown Court fit out for long-standing client Equans
Carman Contracting has successfully completed a fast-track fit out and renovation project at Bournemouth Crown and County Court for long-standing client Equans. The project included the creation of a new acoustic consultation facility, the renovation of two existing rooms, and comprehensive mechanical & electrical upgrades throughout the new spaces.
We transformed part of the public waiting area of the building into a new dedicated sound-proof consultation room where solicitors can now hold confidential discussions with clients. Previously, conversations had to take place in open or unoccupied court areas. Elsewhere, we refurbished two existing rooms, converting one into a breakout kitchen area and adapting the other for remote hearings via video or phone.
Our extensive scope of works involved installing new air conditioning and ventilation systems, comprehensive electrical reconfiguration to improve usability, additional data points, new flooring throughout and complete redecoration. All materials used in the project adhered to Ministry of Justice specifications, ensuring consistency with standards across the MOJ estate.
The five-week project was delivered entirely outside court operating hours, with all work carried out at night and on weekends to avoid disrupting court proceedings. Our team worked under tight time constraints to ensure the site was clean, safe and fully operational before court sessions resumed each morning.
“This project demonstrates our expertise in delivering high specification works in sensitive operational environments,” explained John Graham, Carman Contracting Operations Manager. “For the new mechanical ventilation, we had to tap into the existing ventilation, which meant taking the ceiling down and then putting it back up, ready for the next day’s court proceedings. Our meticulous planning ensured the work area was secured and fully functional each morning when the court reopened.”
