Carman Contracting to deliver solar carport project at Queen Alexandra Hospital
Carman Contracting has won a major contract to deliver a solar carport project at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, for long-standing client Equans.
The project, which is being delivered for Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, is being managed by managed by Operations Director, John Graham, with commercial assistance being provided by Jonquil Tuson. Carman Contracting is acting as main contractor for the design, supply and installation.
Located in the hospital’s south car park, our scope of works includes groundworks and trenching, steelwork installation, PV installation and electrical works, including connection to a local low-voltage panel.
We will also install new lighting beneath the canopies to replace and enhance the existing street lighting in the area.
Works are due to start on site shortly and our specialist team will cover groundworks, steel installation and electrical disciplines to deliver the project.
Although installing the carport structures is technically straightforward, working in a live hospital environment will be logistically challenging. Access to the site is restricted, and the works will include a complex LV panel shutdown and replacement, requiring close coordination with the hospital and the Trust to ensure the hospital remains fully operational.
“This project is an important step for Carman Contracting as we expand into the growing solar carport sector,” said James Selwood. ” As well as building on our experience of working in healthcare environments, it provides an opportunity to strengthen our expertise in renewable infrastructure and lead the way in solar carport installations.”
